Beware: WS1C
« on: September 28, 2022, 05:41:13 PM »

Sold me a defective radio and now lies about it.  I have the repair analysis.  No one touched the unit on this end, but the repair bench found internal damage that he said he tested for 2 hours.  Also told me the radio was donated to his club, then a short while later, he obtained it from some who owed him some money.

Now he says it was sold as is.  Yet his posting says nothing of the sort:

Yaesu HF rig. Great working condition, no internal AC supply option. Book, power cable. no box. can meet in Central Florida.

Truth is the radio had an issue out of the box a newbie would have spotted.  Out $200 to repair and ship and still this guy won't stand up and take ownership, just passes on a flipped Hamfest special....

Problem reported: Constant CW key.
NOTE: High voltage entered key port and damaged various components on switch
"SW-A-unit" unit including CW CPU and protection components.
CW CPU is no
longer available.
Customer would need to locate (Modify) a switch (modify radio) to add a "SW-A-unit" unit to
have Internal keyer fully operational.
Work performed:
1. Performed CW internal keyer bypass mod. (Required 1 resistor and 1
capacitor).
2. Calibrated master reference.
3. Calibrated S-meter (50uV=S9).
4. Replaced defective memory battery.
5. RX tested OK, <.2uV @ 12dB SNR.
6. TX output tested OK, >100 Watts.
7. Antenna auto-tuner tested OK, >3:1 matching.
8. Front and rear CW ports tested OK, can use straight key or external iambic
keyer.

sound like a "fine" working and checked out radio?

Don't have a cock in this fight but I do have a ?

If the seller never used the "CW mode"  and/or the
key jack would he have known?

I ask because I haven't ran any CW in years(FYI I am a 13WPM Extra).
So I may not know if my radios' CW jack was bad.

He did state he keyed the radio and in another email he didn't have a key...also mentioned the radio was donated to their radio club and another that states he got the radio from someone that owes him some money.  They he stated he had tested the radio for 2 hours.  Funny thing is I requested a friend of mine look at this radio and tell me what he thought of it without mentioning the issue.  After 30 seconds stated "why is teh side tone so loud you can't hear the CW signals, and then, why is the radio dead key down in Vox/Semi with no key or anything attached."

Whole thing was a scam from the start.  Only thing I got was "read the manual" when the facts were presented.

repair shop clarified it for me, you need a complete SW-A Unit board. This one is bad, full of defective components due to the sellers damage to it.  No cost effective to poke around rebuilding the board.  Yeah, "worked fine".  No freakin way.

Not a switch, the complete switching unit board.

Complete board containing the CW keyer CPU IC and other components.
Multiple components have been found defective on this board.

You need a "SW-A unit".

I would avoid showing any interest in any items from this scammer he picks up from hamfests and flips, claiming "it worked when I had it".  Kinda like worked 30 years ago when last powered on.  Have the repair invoice that shows the damage and repairs.  Avoid this scammer.

What is also bad about this guy is the SW-A board he damaged is no longer available and the rubber feet on the side of the top cover he picked off are also hard to find.  Denying stuff doesn't make one appear to be telling the truth.  I really have dealing with scammers on swap boards.  I wish used equipment dealers would stock used gear again, but then again, I already know why they don't either.  Sucks to get ripped off.

I got lucky with Yaesu, they actually have some of the SW-A boards available, so more cost to me rather then this scammer seller.  At least the radio will be working properly whenever it moves to a new owner.  I will likely have to yet again send it in for the board installation since my eyes are not that great (too risky).  We surprised they did have that board in stock.  Wow.  So WS1C owes me for the repair shipment, repair cost, return shipment to me, the part replacement he damaged, and follow up repair shipment and repair again and return shipment.  What a fraud.

Sounds like your place of repair is a bit shady.  I mean, you where able to locate a switch from the manufacturer.....  That they weren't able to?

Actually pretty upscale.  Attempted to repair what was there and got the radio to work without the board but without a feature it is suppose to have.  WS1C fried that board and I want to insure the radio is full up should I ever hand it off to someone.  YAesu indicated at one point the board is obsolete when in fact when they checked they have like 18 in stock.  No, this repair source Ham repair.com is very valid.  The seller wasn't.

Yaesu HF rig. Great working condition, no internal AC supply option. Book, power cable. no box. can meet in Central Florida.

This is outrageously funny. No Ac supply, book, power cables, or box. A sucker is born every minute.

Most don't come with a power supply that are DC Powered. manuals are on line easily.  I is obvious you don't buy used gear.
