The new Q900 SDR
« on: September 30, 2022, 02:45:55 PM »

Looks like knobs no longer clustered around main tuning like FTDX10... In fact there is no knob at all ! From 160m to UHF all modes!

Great! Another un-certified, channelized, 20 watt radio on the market.  Probably only does FM "narrow band" too!  I'll bet the manual is easy to read also.
Think I will wait a bit til I see a few "good" reviews.

It's an sdr.  It's going to support whatever modes or protocols are in the software.

Not a very good bet on your part.

Also, there is no channelization.  It even allows unlocking band edges for out of band operation (same with my Hermes).

Frequency resolution is 1hz.

Also ad states it does nfm and wfm.

So.....  I'd say everything you disparaged about the rig, upon reading ads for it, is negated....?

Not everything from China is sub-quality. All industries in all countries can produce both good and bad quality items. Many MFJ products are good examples of USA made sub-quality. Personally, I just like to kind of zero in on something that I like, and if it passes my personal standards of quality, functionality, and just plain fun then I buy it!! :).

There will be risk taker’s, some will be happy, some will not. I’ll risk saying this will be another piece of Chinese junk, just saying.

Thought about buying one.  Then I looked for the add-on boards mentioned in the listings.  Couldn't find where to order them or how much they cost.

The G90 was BAD when it came out, its quite good now, years later.
The 6100 was BAD and still is, and not cheap.
The copy MChf radios are pot luck, good design (not Chinese) with hit and miss quality, not not very cheap.
Others were useable but querky.

I'd love to read a review on this radio.
I googled and found none.
I guess I could go to Aliexpress and read the reviews in broken English.

Forget it, the price is sky hi, I was fooled by the add ons for $100, and the slightly deceptive sellers.
Even Aliexpress has this silly price game. it goes something like this, the price is stated as $78 to $754.
I don't know what the $78 price is but you can't buy it for that price, its just click bait.

Well, it has no knobs at all, just tiny buttons.... so I guess that solves the "too many tiny knobs and buttons around the main tuning knob" problem. Hmm, HF radios and even most HT's have a tuning knob though.

This Guohe/Guohetec Q900 looks like it is also sold as the Ailunce HS2 or Radioddity QR20.  Also available as a kit.

But it's listed as already discontinued or out of stock or presale, or not sure.  Some sellers list the Q900 at 0.1 to 2000 MHz all modes.  A reviewer said it was a brick when powered on but still gave it 5 stars.

Not attractive to me, but let's see what others who have some spare money have to say about it.

Looks a bit hard to use, and the actual performance is an unknown, but quite impressive for such a small package.
I would want some knobs, volume, tuning at least!

As a field radio, maybe ok where you stick to one mode/band/frequency mostly.
What is wrong with knobs?
