Anti Drone magnetic pulse gun
« on: October 07, 2022, 01:31:54 PM »

I thought this was interesting, maybe its old news. I searched again for the video there was lots of different gun variations on the same thing.
Its a magnetic pulse gun, jams the communication of the drone, the drone comes down in a controlled manor, I really don't get that part.
Is magnetic pulse considered RF ?

It's an electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) which covers the RF spectrum. Drones control systems are designed so that when they lose communications with the controller for any reason, they land safely via their own on-board control system.

Yes, that was my question,
So much technology, it would make sense that if a drone looses comm it would land rather than fall, and let me guess it sends out a
beacon to find it..

Depends how you set it up, it can land when comms between controller and drone fail or return to home, i have mine set to return to home on signal loss

The device is nothing more than a jammer. It is NOT an EMP device.

It jams the drone's control link with a noise modulated and swept carrier signal on the drone's control uplink frequency.  Antenna is directional, probably 12-16 dBi in "gain" with an output power in the 5 watt range. It will NOT function on satellite controlled or optically controlled drones.

Amazingly illegal to possess in the USA.

Unless they also lose GPS. The 'professional' jammers include GPS frequencies.

But of course, it is not EMP - regardless of the marketeering.

If it were a pinch or EMP, the Drone would not land. It would twist and turn and crash and burn.  An EMP would destroy all the solid-state electronics.

There is a YouTube video on about a young guy that made a gun out of a microwave oven magnetron. He showed how he can shoot down drones with it. A cool project that actually worked.

Microwave oven magnetrons are 1 kW emitters around 2 GHz and are all kinds of illegal both in power (EMF limits for exposure) and as unlicensed broad band transmitters. Brain cancer city with a side of pacemaker destruction and a FCC violation garnish.

Darwinization IS a thing!

I am not going to make the ray gun, I just thought it was interesting the way this guy made it and how it worked.

Also worth noting, most drones are FAA registered and regulated the same as any other aircraft.

It is illegal to shoot down or interfere with the operation of a drone in any way.

Sorry but if I see a drone hovering over my house or property he is going down. That’s just the way it is.

The mfg calls it an "EMP". Obviously, it's not the same as a nuclear EMP. It would be much more limited in power and frequency spectrum. I would assume that it has to be enough power to take out the front end of the command receiver or the drone would simply recover once the EMP was over.

Drones are one of the leading causes of death in Ukraine.   Anti drone "guns" are in use every day there. Drones are used to kill personnel and some of the larger ones are used to kill armored vehicles. The Ukrainians have been very ingenious in using commercial off the shelf drones to drop munitions on individual and groups of Russian soldiers in the field, and of course the Russians are using Iranian drones to bomb civilians and infrastructure in Ukrainian villages and cities. These drones are of the "kamikaze" type where the drone is packed with explosive and dives on its target. It is only a matter of time before drones will be use here as terror weapons. The face of warfare has changed dramatically in the last few years and drones will play an increasing part in these new battle plans.

Not EMP. Not nuclear or any other brand, type or flavor. Advercritters at work! Watch the video - has to be kept on target on the drone and triggered until the drone lands and can be physically caught.
