Repair Service For Ameritron ALS 1306
« on: October 15, 2022, 02:06:08 PM »

Hi,
My Ameritron ALS 1306 solid state amp just stopped working. I have checked the fuses and they are ok. I hear horror stories that MFJ takes forever and a day to get it back.
Question: Does anyone know a reliable service center or person who works on this amp?

Nope.

"Until further notice, we have decided to halt all intake of amateur amplifiers. A large part of this decision centers around construction inconsistencies in Ameritron amplifiers, the time it takes to find random incorrect parts, and the time and risk involved in correcting component and workmanship errors".

Bill, N4ATS, in St. Cloud, FL is very good. I have personally delt with him a couple times. He has outstanding feedback on the ham sites. He does amplifiers of all makes. Call him. 407-873-3070 and he will tell you if he can help you. You can bank on what he says. If he says he will fix it he will -- properly. If he says he will pass -- well you have a problem but at least he was honest with you.

I had a similar situation with my ALS-600, it turned out to be the +14vdc regulator board inside the switching PSU that was bad.  Check the voltages coming out of the power supply.  You will probably have to "jump" the two pins that go to the power switch to turn the power supply on.

According to Tom, since he has recently gone into repairing the ALS amps from Ameritron he’s found wrong parts on the boards, inferior parts on the boards, wirining errors, and improper adjusts straight from the factory.  It takes him hours upon hours to go through a brand new unit and make it right.  Many  hours he often doesn’t charge for or else the repair will be ridiculously out of site.   When he was involved in a discussion where he divulged what he could on these amps fresh off the line and the work they needed to be “made right” you’d probably get the feeling that the best advice is not to buy any of the solid state amps.  Older units might be ok but it seems as time went on the lack of QC has ruined them.  This “ halt” might be permanent and there’s probably a signal here.

Sent my AL1500 back in for a sticking relay. Shipping was not cheap. Relay still sticks. Lol. I won't do it again.

Does it power on at all? If not, one or more MRF-150's are shorted. Typical issue with the 1306
