EQSL is a bit cumbersome, but it does work well enough for most purposes.  When I changed my call this past May, I had to set up a new account for the new call, and made sure that I uploaded everything under my old call before doing so.

It won't work for ARRL awards (LoTW is required for that), but for general operating, it works fine.

EQSL is cumbersome? LOTW is cumbersome for hams who live outside of USA.
I changed my call on EQSL and had no issues.

The only issue I have is getting EQSL's for contacts not in my log. I just delete those.
One thing I do like about EQSL is I receive SWL reports.

Another is I can print out my awards, and not have to pay $90 Cnd for a piece of paper from the ARRL stating I worked 100 countries on a band.

When we lived in Rhode Island, I would receive all kinds of crap on eQSL from people never worked. Guess they needed RI. Hardly an award system worth anything.

That is why there is a reject feature on EQSL.
And yes they likely needed RI.

I rarely get any EQSL's that are not in my log. But Ontario is not rare!

As for ARRL. When they force someone to pay close to $90 Cnd for one piece of award paper that is not worth it IMO. At least for myself. (And yes I use LOTW)

I only do eQSL or regular cards. LoTW is a convoluted mess and I'll never use it.

And why do you say that?

I didn't find LOTW very difficult to set up and use at all.  Not sure what people find is convoluted about it.

Things have probably changed alot since its early days. Thats when I attempted to get started. Spent hours and many emails and finally gave up back then. Decided the few QSLs that I wanted to collect, I could do it the old-fashioned way.

As far as eQSL, lost faith in it rapidly when I got a QSL from Mongolia. What was funny was the date I supposedly worked the guy, I didn't have any antennas up at the time. Hard to work someone that far away without an antenna...lol

I use and like both LoTW and eQSL as well as QRZ.com and ClubLog logbooks. There are a lot of Hams worldwide that for some reason or another use one or the other of these, but not all of them. As long as that foreign operator uses at least one of these, I am happy to have their QSL for my record.

When discussing getting eQSL requests for QSO's you never made, some folks sound like it is the fault of eQSL. My guess it is a busted call.  That eQSL request is the same as if you received a QSL card (via the USPS) from someone who "thought" they talked with you but it was a busted call.  It matters not that it is from eQSL or from the USPS, "Not in Log" is "Not in Log".

Actually, I find it easier to deal with these busted call QSO's on eQSL than if I receive an actual card in the mail. A card in the mail requires me to respond back via mail (and postage) letting that person know "Not in Log".  I guess there are Hams out there that would just ignore a "busted call" QSL card request, but I consider it rude just to ignore it - the fellow on the other end never gets any closure on what happened.

On the other hand, a "busted call" QSL request on eQSL is easily handled (letting the other fellow know that he is "Not in Log") by a couple of mouse clicks. (For those that do not know, eQSL has a setup for letting the requesting fellow know that his request is not going to be approved and all it takes is a couple of mouse clicks.)

On LoTW, you never see any "busted call" QSL requests, because LoTW only shows you those that match your inputted data.  Who knows, maybe even you have submitted a "busted call" QSL request to Lotw, but you would never know it.
