I use and like both LoTW and eQSL as well as QRZ.com and ClubLog logbooks. There are a lot of Hams worldwide that for some reason or another use one or the other of these, but not all of them. As long as that foreign operator uses at least one of these, I am happy to have their QSL for my record.
When discussing getting eQSL requests for QSO's you never made, some folks sound like it is the fault of eQSL. My guess it is a busted call. That eQSL request is the same as if you received a QSL card (via the USPS) from someone who "thought" they talked with you but it was a busted call. It matters not that it is from eQSL or from the USPS, "Not in Log" is "Not in Log".
Actually, I find it easier to deal with these busted call QSO's on eQSL than if I receive an actual card in the mail. A card in the mail requires me to respond back via mail (and postage) letting that person know "Not in Log". I guess there are Hams out there that would just ignore a "busted call" QSL card request, but I consider it rude just to ignore it - the fellow on the other end never gets any closure on what happened.
On the other hand, a "busted call" QSL request on eQSL is easily handled (letting the other fellow know that he is "Not in Log") by a couple of mouse clicks. (For those that do not know, eQSL has a setup for letting the requesting fellow know that his request is not going to be approved and all it takes is a couple of mouse clicks.)
On LoTW, you never see any "busted call" QSL requests, because LoTW only shows you those that match your inputted data. Who knows, maybe even you have submitted a "busted call" QSL request to Lotw, but you would never know it.
