Whatever it is, for ham radio, I suggest you turn it around so the back is facing you. I'm forever plugging/unplugging audio & USB cables and it makes it much easier to do that if the computer's rear panel faces you. OTOH, I never use the CD drive anymore...

I'm using a Dell mini-tower which has two USB ports on the front panel. All the radio equipment is permanently connected via the rear panel USB ports. I made up a dummy microphone plug with a 1K resistor and keep it plugged into the sound card microphone connector and set it as the Windows default microphone. This prevents Windows from automatically assigning some other USB audio device as the default microphone when connecting devices. It keeps the Windows "bings and bongs" out of the radio equipment.

I'm using an old dinosaur, large desktop.  All I need is something to run digital and logging programs so this should last a while.

Using tiny NUC 10   i7 with 32GB RAM.   With today's larger and larger programs requiring more and more processing  power,  it sure helps to have fast CPU and lots of RAM.  Also frees up lots of space taken by old large computer.   Also have a USB Hub connected to give me lots of easily accessible connection points.  This computer is for both home office and ham.   Backup is a Lenovo Thinkpad Ultra laptop - used for portable ham ops too.

I don’t use a computer in the shack, I just use my radio.

A second user Dell Optiplex, i7, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. Windows 10 Pro. Small form factor case.

Twin monitor outputs, lots of USB connections.

There are lots of refurbished Optiplex PCs around, just the job for the shack.

I dont do digital yet but i build a lot and that lappy and printer makes it nice for downloading schematics and manuals.
So far im experimenting with antennas, trying to get the rust off my fist and relearn morse, and tinkering with circuit designs.

i need to organize my activities a bit though,
It brings a funny picture to mind of the futility of juggling live chickens.
But hey im having fun ;D

A new loaded Lenovo 14 inch Thinkpad laptop with Windows 11.  No corners cut. Lighting fast and a pleasure to have as a shack accessory. It’s like a third hand.

old thinkpad x61 running linux.  Had 2 gigglybytes oh memory but a buddy have me 4 gigglybytes.  Has been a work horse after replacing the x31 which my kitty cat managed to kill one happy night many years ago :)

Other machine is Rpi 4 with 8 gigglybytes!

"What is your shack computer"

I suppose this is yet another question written as a statement.  What is wring with putting a question mark at the end of a question?   The world is going to hell, just like my dad predicted sixty years ago!
