Ameritron pulser ATP-102 question
« on: November 02, 2022, 04:07:38 PM »

picked up an Ameritron pulser ATP-102 for almost nothing off craigslist.  Before I connect it to any of my equipment how might I check the output?  I do not have a scope although I do have access to one at the ham clubhouse if thats the only way to check the output.

thx to anyone taking the time to offer advice.

The only thing that will work is either a scope, or better yet, a PEP wattmeter.  I believe the Ameritron unit plugs into the CW key jack. I think the pulse rate can be changed (use the fastest speed)...and also the spacing between pulses
(changes the duty cycle).

Check it with an ohmmeter across its key output. You should see it tick between infinity to some intermediate value when the pulser is operating.

Sure it would. It's done all the time.  Dots at 30-60 wpm result in a 50% duty cycle on the plate current side of things.
On my yaesu MK-V's, the weighting can be changed from A-Z.  With that tweaked, the duty cycle can be reduced down to abt 20-25%.

On my Icom rigs (7300, 7610) I programmed one of the CW memories with a long string of e's
When the keyer speed is turned up you can just push one button and then tune up a tube amp as the series of e's play out of the rig. I am sure you could do this with other rigs that have CW memories.
