Yaesu FT-5200’s: I messed up both of mine
« on: November 02, 2022, 06:43:05 PM »

I admit it:  I messed up. I have two Yaesu FT-5200 duoband FM transceivers.  One had all burned-out LCD backlights;  the other had one light burned out.  I decided to replace the lights.  I had done that before in previous FT-5200’s and 5100’s (essentially the same) without any issues.  Well, this time I have messed up:  My problems started when I broke some of those delicate and too-short wires that connect to the PCB of the display unit. I replaced the wires with slightly longer ones to make it easier to work on.  Well, now I have two non-functioning FT-5200’s!  I don’t know what I did wrong.  One radio has non-functioning buttons on the front, but I CAN change the frequency.  The other:  the buttons all work, but turning the encoder does not change the frequency.  I don’t know what I have done, but I really like this model radio and would like to make them function again.  Has anyone experienced this before?  Any suggestions of IF and HOW I can fix them?

Thank you for reading my post, and in advance for any and all suggestions.
