Adapter for Koss SB-40?
« on: November 06, 2022, 04:11:57 PM »

Can anyone suggest a pre-built adapter which will let me use this headset's 3.5mm mic output w a Yaesu or TenTec? It's a dynamic mic, so I know it doesn't require It's own voltage source (as do electret elements). Thanks.

Thanks,  all. Found this which is the least expensive, even after shipping;

The picture shown will not work on Yaesu. the mic connector will look like a computer RJ-45. Not a round 8pin. If you're getting it for a Yaesu, I hope the picture is wrong.

Gary,

Thanks, but something is odd. When I click the same link, it opens to the expected 8-pin adapter. And says:

Series M-Y adapter for 8 pin Yaesu, Ten-Tec, FlexRadio rigs

which is appropriate for both Yaesu & TenTec w 8-pin mic inputs. So, don't know why it took you elsewhere, unless Google is familiar w your station and knows that you need a modular connector...Hopefully not.

But, as a reminder to everyone: check the junk box (even one as shallow as mine) before you order. I heard a quiet nag..."check your box." Glad I did. There was the very adapter I must have purchased a few years back, LOL. I don't operate voice, so had forgotten about it. Wanted the Koss SB40 more for listening than for the mic, but since it has a dynamic mic, thought it prudent to have an adapter for the day I check to see if my voice is still operational. I think I probably tried it once w another headset which proved to have an electret mic element. Threw it in the box and forgot all about it.

My mistake...You must have a FTDX101 or one of the FTDX-1200, 3000, or 5000 series.

I assumed, (And we all know what happens when you do that!) that Yaesu standardized their mic connectors across the line. The 2 Yaesu radios I currently own, an FT-450D & FTDX10 both have the RJ-45 style plug, as does the new FT-710AESS.

Sorry about telling you the wrong information!

BTW I have 2 of the Koss SB-40's and love them. One is over 8 years old.

Gary,

TenTec Omni 7. Had an FTDX10 briefly, which did have a modular mic jack. They change so much so often it's hard to keep up.
