Question-sleeve removal kenwood hybrid driver tube
« on: November 20, 2022, 09:19:19 AM »

I have a kenwood ts-820s. The driver tube has a black sleeve on it.

When I pull the tube I see a thin metal rod that slides in between the tube and sleeve. I’m assuming that’s just for support??

But that black sleeve. Seems to be pretty tight around the tube. Do you somehow slide it off for use on the new tube? I can see how the black sleeve overlaps on itself but I don’t want to peel it open.

Thanks.

It should just slide off, some of them were always tighter.  Dont undo the join to open it up, that will ruin it.  If the valve is duff, then you can be a more vigorous it getting the cover off.

Mind the glass and your fingers.

From memory the tight fitting ones were meant to aid cooling.

Cheers  Gavin.

Thank you.

I bought a new driver tube and set of 6146b’s

I don’t have the knowledge or experience to accurately troubleshoot.

I get 60ma when I set to ip, and usb and hit send.

I can peak the alc and dip the plate as I do on my other kenwood hybrids.

But I do notice to get the meter to peak when playing with the plate and load I have to have the load all the way up (clockwise) to peak the meter.

And when tuning I can get 225ma fine.

But my wattmeter shows only 60 watts out. I know that’s accurate when testing against other meters and rigs.

So I don’t know if that’s more indicative of finals needed to be changed out or the driving tube.

The sleeve provides electrostatic shielding of the tube. The metal bar is grounded, makes contact with the shield and thereby grounds the shield.
