FL-2100B on 30/17 meters
« on: November 23, 2022, 10:31:45 AM »

Can the FL-2100B be operated on 30 meters or 17 meters (with some output loss I assume)?  Have not read of any articles on it,  yet.

I read somewhere the 30L1 will but cannot find that link now, so assumed the 2100B would also.

The FL2100B's  plate choke will blow up on 17m.     Dunno about 30m.

I find it ironic/funny that my AL-80B has 20/30 on the band switch but it won't load on 30 meters for nothing...odd you would have that on the front panel and it is inop in the unit...not that I would need it anyway...

If the input swr is fubar, then you won't have the proper load impedance on the tube anode.

Just went through this with a guy on Facebutt.  He had an sb220 conversion with 160 meters and it wouldn't load.  His 160 input swr was off the charts.  Instead of a 1900 ohm load impedance his load impedance was just north of 6k ohms.  There was no way the SB220 tank could match that.

A lot of the 'nearby' bands on the Ameritron stuff has to have the input networks tweaked for either a happy medium between the two or you can choose which one.  Sometimes running the rigs tuner into the amplifier will help as well.

Not saying this is your problem, but it's something to look at.

Not planning on changing anything something was not designed to do to begin with, just asking the question.

It was designed to be able to do it.

You just have to decide which band you want it on, and if both, place the slug in the happy medium.

Thought you folks only have a 200 watt limit on 30M ?

Yes, just 200W in the States.  I throttle back the SS amp down to 200W to work DX on 30 meters.

I never understood the rational behind the 200 watt limit on 30M.  It's full bore for the rest of the planet.   What are you supposed to be potentially interfering with on 30m ??

US hams are secondary users of the band.
