Kari and I have lost a lot over the last two years. Granted most of it was just "stuff".
This was her first HF radio and reminds her of her grandfather's, Bernard J Scherman WA7FKI SK) station. She would sit in the hallway outside his room, not wanting to disturb him, listening to the world.
Decades later Kari was able to acquire his call not by close family member but by vanity. "I want to earn the right to it just like anyone else. I don't care If they call it vanity, so be it."
A group C call wasn't enough for Kari. She passed her extra specifically so she could make complete use of her VE. "It's empowering for a woman to walk into a VE session and see a woman at the grading table. You can do this."
So, you see, it isn't just a radio. It's about the art, science, enjoyment, and history of amateur radio. That and Benton Harbor green :-)
