The 897 is an analog radio - not sure what digital modes you're expecting to see by adjusting the remote interface baud rate.  What exactly are you hoping to do with your setup?

Describe your hardware setup - what interface and software you're using.

Lots of youtube videos which describe each step of setting up a rig for
digital modes like FT8. Look at the videos to make sure you have completed all
the steps properly.

Even with CAT not working you should be able to manually set the radio's VFO to the desired FT8 band-edge and see FT8 signals on the waterfall. If you have purchased a USB-CAT cable it is possible that your Windows 7 does not have the appropriate driver for that cable.

Again, you can actually work FT-8 without CAT if you manually set the radio to the proper frequency, USB mode. You also have to turn CAT functions off in WSJT-x so that it doesn't error-out for lack of CAT responses from the radio.

The tigertronics came with a mini cd rom with the drivers on it. Did you install it?

Do you have any software installed that updates the computer clock? Because if the clock is not dead on you will not decode any FT8.
I use Dimension 4 to keep my clock synced.

I have two signalinks and they've worked with every windoze and linux computer I've plugged them into without doing anything.  First thing I would look at is if it's appearing as a sound card in your system setup.  The Signalink does not do rig control, so you can eliminate that as a variable.  After that, you have to make sure your digital mode software (FT8) is accessing the Signalink as a source, and not the system sound device.  That's pretty much it, I've been using the Signalinks for years and appreciate that they're as close to plug and play digital for ham radio as you're going to get.
