Voice Keyers
« on: December 01, 2022, 06:09:55 PM »

Does anyone beside MFJ make a voice keyer??  (ie...MFJ-434B)  I'm thinking about getting one, but I haven't seen anything but MFJ's and I don't want that to be my only option.  Thanks.

If you can make due without a stand-alone voice keyer almost all contesting programs (N1MM, WriteLog) etc) have voice keyers built in. Record your messages, press F1, F2, F3, etc. and away you go.

Technically those programs use your computer's sound card to do the recording and playback.

You record .wav files either through the program or externally and the messages are played back through the program by F1-F4, F6-F11.

I've used the VK64 Voice/CW Keyer made by UM (Unified Microsystems).  I believe it's now considered
a "legacy" product, and no longer manufactured.  But it's still supported and available on e-Bay and other sites.
It's worked well for me for several years.

A few years ago I sold my UM DVK. I actually think the DVR approach was a more stable way to do it that files on the PC but the N1MM automation with Fkeys is so cool that I've gone over to that approach - even though periodically Windows updates seem to screw up sound card settings and file paths.

How do you have it running to the mic (or an AUX) input of the radio?
