Why was the valid question locked?
« on: March 29, 2022, 06:08:03 AM »

I had a valid question about trying to receive some funds for our club and because some narrow minded person thought I was getting political the discussion was locked! Tried to contact admin using the, "Contact the site with comments or questions." but needed to set up an Outlook account to do so. No thanks. So admin why was a valid question locked?

You don't need an Outlook account to contact eHam.

Using whatever email program you prefer, simply send an email to webmaster@eham.net.

I've reopened the question.  I was not the one who closed it.  But it clearly has a high probability of going off the rails. I will be watching.  ;-)

As to the "Contact the site..." - that's on you as far as I can tell. It's a standard mailto: link that when clicked, tells your browser to open the email program that's set up in the browser and populate the to: field with the email address. It's probably defaulted to Outlook and you've never changed it. For giggles, try a mailto: link on some other site and see what it does.  Thing is, they may be hard to find - many sites no longer make use of those links because they are spam generators.

Hope that helps.

Nothing wrong with asking a question but the way it was phrased it would have certainly opened up a hornet's. It does not take much fuel to start an argument these days. Our hobby will benefit by leaving politics out of it.

Agree 100%!   Religion and politics make too many people too angry.

It depends on the rules and how strict moderation is.
Ive been on a few forums where trolls baited others into argument in short order.
And it doesnt even have to be politics or religion.
Even something as simple as pets or cooking would evolve into virtual ww3.
You could label a forum site as a trolls nest but the trolls would probably be happy about it.

My G-dad told me 45 years ago to NEVER, EVER talk politics or
religion with ANYONE.(well,,,maybe your spouse??)  If you follow that rule you will have some
life long friends.  It has served me well!!  And I do have, as the kids say, many BFF :)

Many people are overlooking an obvious source.
The arrl!
They have a grant program but it's limited in the amount you can get.
But like any grant you need a precise paper trail of the funds in order to prevent abuse of the grant program.
