Xiegu 6100
« on: December 13, 2022, 05:49:48 PM »

Picked another one of these up after looking at some video's.
Upgraded the firmware to 1.1.6 which just came out.

I do not see a lot of flaws with this radio, audio is good, filters are good, 160 to 6 meters, good antenna tuner built in, built in battery, 10 watts output, small, seems rugged.
The wifi and bluetooth now work if you use that, although there are some glitches with it maybe.
The display is very nice and has a lot of info on it.
Its a bit hard to jump around modes and options on a small radio, but you do have plenty of buttons for the major things.
The microphone does not sound great, but its got a lot of nice buttons on it which makes changing bands quick and easy.

Its not an Elecraft or IC705 but it works well enough to use.
And Amazon has them with 1 day delivery!

I purchased a used G90 a few weeks ago and love it. I actually spend more time listening on it than I do my FT991. The waterfall on the G90 makes it super simple to find stations, even the weak ones.

I had a couple of G90's and as of now, I think the G90 works a bit better then the 6100, but the 6100 has a much nicer screen.
If they could keep the same design (maybe add a few things like a battery) but give it a bigger screen, it would be a very nice radio.

The 705 needs a better battery and a REAL tuner, maybe drop the vhf/uhf stuff and it would be great.
Surprising that no one has come out with a radio like the 6100 other then Xiegu.

The MChf is good, but needs a battery and good tuner built in, and maybe a bigger screen would be nice.
The software and performance is very good.
