Have downloaded wsjt-x 2.5.4 and installed in C:\wsjtx folder.   it will not run.  use windows 10 with a IC7300 with drivers that have worked for past 2 years (prolific)..  tried as adminstrator after restarting computer.  was there a change recently I might have missed ??   Any assist appreciated.  Ed W6AOA Pensacola.

My setup: USB A/B cable, ICOM driver for IC7300 installed on laptop running Windows 11 and all works FB. One thing that surprised me was the baud rate must be set to 115,200 otherwise devices wouldn't talk to each other. It doesn't make sense...but who am I to argue with success...I've noticed ICOM software isn't the best written apps out there.

Turn off your 7300.  Disconnect the USB cable from your PC to your 7300. Now connect the cable to the 7300 and turn on the 7300.  WSJT-X and the 7300 should now be able to take to each other.  There are numerous "how to" videos on the setup procudure on YouTube.

Based on the other reply, I am not clear on your situation:
You said you had been running Win.10, but in a later post mention using a laptop with Win 11;  so it is not the SAME setup as before?   Is 2.5.4 an update to a previous version that you had been using successfully, or is this a new install?   Since you indicate that the computer will access the rig, then it sounds like  your specific problem is actually getting the WSJTx program to start (run)?   Are there any  messages when you try to start it?

First go into task manager and verify it is NOT running.

Are you sure you're not running the version that expired on 11/30/22?

If so, it will not run.

Install the latest version that expires in Spring 2023 and try that.

mine has both wsjt and wsjtx in the wsjt folder ( no x) . Did you delete the old copy of wsjtx within the folder?
I had a similar problem but I deleted the old one , downloaded the new and it worked.
Also the delete the old shortcut icon which may be sending you to a nonexistent path.

Thanks for all the responses.   I did have the version that expired 11/30/22 and uninstalled it.  Used uninstaller pro to remove any other versions on the computer (WIN10)..   Little confused on select install (NO PATH,  Any User or  Current user)  used default NO Path.    I know how to get the 7300 to talk to the program, But the program never makes it to the screen.  Even when Run as Administrator. Checked the 7300 driver is present OK, mine set as com10) @ 115200.   I get NO error messages concerning the my attempt to run the program. even tried to download v2.5.2 and run with no joy after removing all existing WSJT and WSJTX folders on my system.   What version is it that expires spring 2023.  This reply is extracted from all replies so far.    I'm wide open     Thanks    Ed W6AOA Pensacola

I'm not clear as to what you are experiencing. Does it start , then crash, or you get nothing at all.
Did you try executing it from the folder?

I was getting crash errors, until I deleted the old version and re-installed.
However it seems that you are getting nothing at all?

Does not start at all.  nothing at all.   I did go directly to the install folder and tried to run as administrator and just double clicking it.  Funny too,  I just installed a clean WSJT-X V2.5.4.  on my laptop and   it went in effortlessly and works great..    Even updted the icom japan USB driver for the IC7300 and used zadig to besure the silicon labs CP210x to UART bridge driver was there.  I use com10 115200,8,none,1  to 7300.

Hmmm, that's very strange.
maybe it's not being allowed to run by Win defender? try adding it to 'allowed apps"

Expired versions of WSJT-X do nothing after the expiration date. They won't load and they don't give an error message.

I'm running the 64-bit version of WSJT-X 2.6.0-rc5 https://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/wsjtx-2.6.0-rc5-win64.exe. Install that one. Be sure to read the version notes on the home page.

2.5.4 is the current stable version as far as I know. It works fine for me.
I think 2.6 is still in beta stage

Finally got wsjt-x 2.5.4 running.   Guess the requirement for having it's own folder C:\wsjtx could be the problem.  As soon as I selected  create path for current user, The program used the normal program path and everything works.  Is there any downside having the program reside/run from that location ??
