No HF Rig. Need Help Contacting AD4MY in Alabama
« on: December 17, 2022, 06:46:50 AM »

I need someone to help me contact Rod, AD4MY in Pell City Alabama.

I heard him today, Saturday 12/17/22 on 40 meters at about 7.240.17 Mhz at around 8:45-9:00 AM working as net control for some net.

I was listening on the internet via a WEBsdr station as I don't have an HF rig right now.

He mentioned a radio he had that I would like to talk to him about so any help in contacting him would be appreciated.

His Call is listed here on eHam.net but no email address as I can see so I'm unsure how to contact him.

If anyone can help me contact him please message me here on eHam.net and I will supply my contact info... email and phone.

Thanks for any help.

He has not published his email on QRZ. You can always write him a letter.

It's a long shot, but some hams, if they are a member of ARRL, will setup email forwarding.
You could try sending him an email at  AD4MY 'at' arrl.net

Replace 'at' with @ to make a valid email address.

I agree on trying to send him a letter via the U.S. mail. Strangely, though, is that Rod Wright gave up the call AD4MY in November 1996 per the AE7Q callsign site and has been WZ4X since then. From QRZ:

May, I ask what the radio was ??  was it super special  ??  there are usually plenty rigs ( of the same model ) around on several sights.

Was he using his old call sign to run a net  ??  For what reason  ?? which is illegal anyway.

Could it be AG4MR?  That is an active call in Pell City.  That sounds close to AD4MY, especially if he wasn't using phonetics.  His email is ag4mr@yahoo.com

I just typed ad4my into the eHam.net Callsign Search and got this...
https://www.eham.net/site/callsearch?search=ad4my.

It shows his license expiring 11-26-26...

But then it says "Vanity - Primary Station Preference List" ...

I then see where he changed his call sign here...
https://www.city-data.com/aradio/lic-Pell-City-Alabama.html

Also, what net meets on 40 meters on Saturday morning at around 8-9 AM? He was net control and calling the roll by call sign.

Very confusing.

Maybe I'll try a letter if nothing turns up here.

Thanks for the help folks.

There are (2) issues here. First, did you look up the call sign AD4MY because you heard someone using that call sign to run a net on 40 meters? If so, that station was operating illegally. The call sign AD4MY has been vacated since November 1996 per my previous post.

The previous holder of AD4MY, Rod Wright, upgraded his call sign in November 1996 to WZ4X. I provided a link to his contact info on QRZ in my previous post.

The second issue is that eHam's callsign lookup is NOT a lookup of current FCC data. It shows the user's ALIAS, which could be an old call sign, a current call sign, or something else that may not even be a call sign. The ALIAS is user provided to eHam and is not pulled from any FCC data base.

When you entered AD4MY into the eHam callsign lookup you saw what that user's ALIAS is. If it was at one time a valid FCC call sign, it would not be automatically updated if the user updates their call sign. The user has to do that manually.

I hope this helps.
