Filters For R2000
« on: December 23, 2022, 03:36:22 PM »

Hi All,
I just received an ebay buy that I purchased a few days ago. I saw a Kenwood R2000 for a good price and I snagged it. My question is - What filters can I install in this radio and how many? I listen to utilities primarily if I'm not listening to AM. Also, what transceiver does this radio mimic as far as circuitry and componants? Thank you in advance if you can answer my question.

Utilities on HF? Now that is funny.

As more useful information, the only optional filter for the R-2000 was the narrow YG-455C 500 Hz filter for CW.  For general listening it's probably not necessary.  They show up from time to time used.

The R-2000 was its own design and doesn't share much with other radios, unlike the R-5000 that had the same appearance as the TS-440S transceiver and shared some parts with it.

Thanks very much VE7DQ. I was anticipating that same conclusion. I just wanted to see how valuable this little radio will be in my collection. As far as the "Utilities on HF?" comment made, yes, I do a myriad amount of listening to utilities on HF due to my experience working for "Uncle Sugar" and being parked on HF. I used to have a General license but due to circumstances beyond my control, the license lapsed and I am just preparing to take my tests over, which is no problem. I'm finally retired!

Ain't retirement great?  Gives a person time to spend the money they're not making any more.  Notwithstanding pensions.

Good luck on your retest!

Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2023!

Cheers
