Crozet - Equipment Setup
« on: December 24, 2022, 02:33:00 PM »

Looking at the recent photos posted on the Crozet Dxpedition website:

http://crozet2022.r-e-f.org/news.html

It looks like the fiberglass guyed mast is supporting a doublet style wire antenna fed with ladder line.

The ATU sitting on the desk is an MFJ-998RT remote auto tuner (installed at the bottom of the mast) that can handle up to 1.5KW.

Hard to tell from the photo buy looks like the lowest frequency the doublet is cut for is 40M band.

I believe from sources that the radio setup is a Kenwood TS590SG and there is also a Acom 1010 amplifier as well.

Note that he's transmitting in odd time slots, with lots of guys calling in his time slot.

Don't use F/H, just use regular mode. He's probably using MSHV, running three streams at a time.

Yes, that does seem to be the case.  He's on 10.131, but not  F/H.  I switched out of Hound mode and got on the correct cycle, then worked him right away.

There is a page on the Crozet-2022 web site that describes Thierry's antenna and tuner in more detail. This page is available only in French, but Google makes a descent job translating it to English:
