I would like to see a list of the most famous DXers of the last half of the 20th century.

That depends on one's definition of a famous DXer. Are they famous for being celebrities, their accomplishments on DXpeditions, or accomplishments in DXCC totals. I know of many who have been on a lot of DXpeditions and put new ones in my log. A few who come to mind are Martti Laine, OH2BH, fellow club member Bob, K4UEE, and fellow eHam member KC0W, who has traveled on his own dime and gave us contacts.

There's more at ZL2AL's site...  https://www.zl2al.com/category/famous-dxers-in-the-past/

As for DXCC accomplishments, that's covered at this ARRL site...  https://www.arrl.org/dxcc-standings

This is a list of famous hams who may or may not be DXers...  https://www.qsl.net/w5www/famous.html

You could look up any of the bios on this list:

https://cq-amateur-radio.com/cq_awards/cq_hall_of_fame_awards/CQ-DX-Hall-of-Fame-2022.pdf

Zorro, JH1AJT, SK, deserves a shout-out.

He did more than DXpedition to some great places.  He created tons of good will in places that were indifferent to outright hostile to DXpeditioning alongside his day job, which involved other charitable and worthwhile endeavors.

We are already missing his ability to expand our access.

When the only ham who ever worked every entity isn’t generally included on these lists, it makes the definition of “famous” rather silly.

I intentionally omit his call and wonder how many might know it/him.

Famous can simply mean "widely known", not necessarily for the right reasons. ;)

Famous modern day DX'ers are only known by the infinitesimal number of people involved in this silly hobby. Probably less than 000.1% of the worlds population. Two famous individuals who were not only DX'ers but changed everything are known by hundreds of millions of people.............Incredibly, neither ever operated FT8.  :)

VK9NS and ZL1AMO come to mind.  Gus Browning, W4BPD.  Danny Weil, VP2VB.  No list complete without the Colvins, Lloyd and Iris, W6KG and W6QL.

I don't recognize the second guy, but I do the first. Never mind FT8, if he operated today the same way he did back then he would be 'destroyed' here on eHam. How times have changed?! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Not what the OP asked for, but since there is now an opening for earlier names, here is another one.

You may not believe it, but it's true. I heard the first name many times, but I would not be able to recognize her in a photo. As for the second guy, no clue whom you are talking about.

You are lucky the pillow guy hasn't permeated the airwaves up in Canada. Must be a USA thing. Luckily we only get his TV commercials here once in a while. His radio commercials are non-stop on Saipans four ultra, ultra $hitty FM radio stations. They are such knuckleheads here they play Christmas music until March.........No joke.  :-\

Sorry, I digress. Back to famous DXpeditioners.
