FT8 F/H
« on: December 27, 2022, 10:54:22 AM »

Hi all,can i ask why theres 2 frequencies of FT8 on 30m band or is it that the DX station FT8WW is on 10.131mhz and the rest on 10.136mhz,im lost and totally inexperienced with fox and hound and need to learn it all before Bouvet next month

10131, like other frequencies on other bands in addition to the "popular" ones, are set aside for DXpeditions, or so the idea went.

Based on my observations so far, those on 10136 have no clue what they are doing. They are seeing 30m on the cluster and being "Field of Dreams" type DXers.

By the way, FT8WW is not using F&H, he is using MSHV Multistreaming. Note the time slot, and skip the grid.

On 30 meters the main FT8 frequency is still 10.136. However, the operation from FT8WW on Crozet is operating on 10.131 because of the massive pileup. It's a strategy other DX operations have followed.

FT8WW is using FT8 but he is not using the Fox/Hound mode often used for DX operations. He is using a software called MSHV. It appears to be compatible with regular FT8. But MSHV transmits multiple signals at one time so he can work 3 stations at a time. You can Google these topics and get a better explanation than I can give.

When the Crozet operation began I mistakenly thought he was using F/H but quickly learned that wasn't the case. On 20 meters he is on 14.085, a few kHz above the usual FT8 spot.  GL, N4KZ

Oh, I think we are talking about two FT8s here. One is the station (FT8WW), the other is the mode being used, called FT8. The FT8 in the callsign is just a coincidence.

Do a search on FT8 mode.

If you are open to suggestions, mine is to try JTDX, instead of MSHV or WSJT-X.

Yes, I'm partial to JTDX. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

For EI5GUB: a pretty good tutorial on the FT8 mode that has all the answers to your questions is here.

I think that document also points to some video tutorials.

Once you've read through the basics, what you see/hear will make more sense!
