some tips and tricks for dx'ers old and new
« on: January 02, 2023, 05:54:31 PM »

HI guys i hope you will indulge me i have had a lot great feed back and comments on my latest video with people asking me to share it more and some people even calling me on the phone to tell me its was very good.

IT IS SOME HINTS AND TIPS FOR DXING AND AN EXPLANATION OF SOME OF THE TOOLS I USE TO FIND THE DX.
Actually finding dx stations is often hard especially for new comers to this part of the hobby.

I have a thick skin so comments and suggestions are welcomed good or bad also if you think this type of video can help inspire people, to chase the dx like we.
We aren't getting any younger and need the next generation of dx'ers and dxpeditioners so we can sit back in our rocking chairs and complain about how arent doing it right :)
Lastly when was the last time you helped and encouraged someone who was new to the hobby to find out about the dx or showed off your qsl cards to may be spark a little dream in someone.

https://youtu.be/Te--XCNiW9M

feel free to share it around

The video consists of one long 17 minute shot with a few graphics. You wanted the truth so I will give it to you. This is boring, boring, boring. Talk for a MAXIMUM of 1 minute, reposition the camera and pick up again where you left off. There are MANY tutorials on YouTube teaching the fine art of editing. Be creative so your viewers don't get bored. Take your camera outside and shoot some B roll stuff of your antenna, your neighborhood, even a dog at play will breakup the monotony of a still shot for 17 minutes. Cut in with video of your radio(s) amplifier etc. etc. Use hand gestures, body movement & be ANIMATED. Speak louder, speak softer. Punctuate an idea by striking your tabletop. Changing your facial expressions is important.

If you are discussing working DX with CW, show yourself actually doing this. Show your antenna rotating if talking about beam headings. If discussing the DX cluster show video of spotted stations roll by on the cluster.

On the plus side your video is well lit & has somewhat decent audio. A little bit of echo but it's passable.

Audio of DX stations is just as important as video. Let the viewer HEAR what flutter sounds like. Let them HEAR what a booming signal sounds like. Let them HEAR what a pileup sounds like.

 Remember.............Edit, edit, edit.

This is a great video on what could easily be a very boring subject.
But he has lot of visuals to  help move his talk along.

YouTube, the new religion and idiot's bible. At least the new bible is not written by uneducated goat herders from 3000 years ago who saw lights in the sky while smoking dope.

Gary, I enjoyed your video and you present great tips that can save a new DXer months, if not years, of learning.

 Call a tow truck.
I work down the street from a business named Big Tows.  And it's exactly what you would think. Tow trucks towing tow trucks, cement mixers, school busses and any other massive vehicle.  A great  name for what they do.
