Yes, I would prefer that it did not come from China, but Yaesus are not from England either!

Be sure to fill out the registration card and send it back to the Chi-Coms. That way when they storm your city, they won't burn your house down for giving them financial support.

I suspect a replacement for the FT818 will be forthcoming, as the Icom 705 is doing too well to ignore.

hope you are right... unfortunately, the 705 while a feature-packed rig, is actually not a great QRP rig... it's too heavy and too power hungry... the TX-500 is the ultimate QRP rig IMO... touchscreen color display? not needed... bluetooth? not needed... wifi? not needed... gps? not needed...

the 817/8 has nearly all the essentials, aside from filtering and for US ops WX band... otherwise, a great rig, even with its less than stellar rx performance

i don't hold hope for a new price/performance QRP rig from yazoo

FT-818 and IC-705 cover 1.8 through 450 MHz (exc 220), while other QRP rigs mentioned here do not go above 54 MHz.

IC-705 receiver coverage goes down to 30 kHz, in case you want to monitor the Low Bands too.

No comparison.  IC-705 is in a class of its own.  I just might get one, wait until Hamvention to see what Yaesu announces.

It looks like the price gouging has started.  I just saw an ft-818nd for sale, with the box and all of it's originally supplied goodies for an asking price of $750.00.  2 weeks ago DXE had them shipped for $639.00. I guess it all depends on how bad you want one.  I'm glad I bought another one to replace one I sold, before the stock dried up.
