static shield bag for shipping
« on: January 04, 2023, 07:51:38 AM »

I need to ship a few boards from a Kenwood radio. I do not have any antistatic bags. Is there a good alternative. Is this even necessary? Thanks Mike

just about mandatory. Jameco Electronics has had them. DigiKey should. McMaster-Carr does.

CMOS is prone to static damage.
And there is always aluminum foil.  Beware of any board mounted batteries.

I have bought some anti-static bags before on Ebay.  Probably available on Amazon as well.  If you stop by a computer repair store they probably have some extras on hand.  I have gotten them that way as well.

I purchase them from u-line or 20th century plastics.
Being a kitter I purchase them in quantities between 500 and 1000
Their prices aren't bad at all.
When I ship static sensitive semiconductors they are a blessing.

I talked with the buyer and he commented that tin foil would be ok. I see them for sale but do not need a large quantity. There is a computer repair store close, I will see if they have any they will be tossing. Thanks Mike
