Trident Raider II extreme vxr-9000 newb help
« on: January 04, 2023, 06:40:36 PM »

Hello all this is my first post.
Im new to the forum hoping some of you experts can help me out please!!!

I have been having trouble connecting a vertex vxr9000 repeater to a trident raider extreme. I have both manuals and a db25 cable with breakout board connectors and i cant seem to get all the pins matched up right.

I know once its connected correctly only two led lights should be lit up on the raider thats power and sync, until the repeater is keyed up.
Well most of my lights are staying on solid except yellow led for receive thats off and talk and listen are blinking very dim.

I just cant get it right and the abbreviations for the pins they use are weird to me like theres non labeled COR.

Please help me out!! im going to try and attach the two pages from the manual that show the db25 connector pinout for each side the raider and vxr9000

Thank you all in advance i guess i cant post pdf here so heres the link to radioreference forum i will post it there https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/vxr-9000-trident-raider-ii-extreme.452288/#post-3780636

Well, I don’t know anything about trucked radio controllers, but you might try the VHF/UHF sub forum. Maybe get a few more knowledgeable trunking guys there.

Uh, Nextgentow, (damn, I hate not being able to address someone by name, or callsign!)
Nobody??
Perhaps if I knew what a "Trident Raider II extreme" was, I could be of some help....

I've owned/built/maintained repeaters for many decades...but, unfortunately don't know what a trident raider extreme II is.  :(
And, I've been using VXR-7000's for many years (decades)....and have used/repaired a VXR-9000.
And, have wired-up and programmed external controllers for the VXR's.
(and, yes....I've also found some of the "interconnections" and the programming, and configuring switches, etc. when using external controllers with the VXR's and their DB25's, to be frustrating)

So, I'm thinking it's possible that the "Trident Raider II extreme" is an external controller?  Or S/N voting box/router?
But, if that were the case, you'd surely have posted your request for assistance in the Repeaters forum?
So, I'm back to my original thoughts:  "wish I could help....but don't know what he's asking about"

Now, to show you that we (I) did try to help any way....
Yesterday, I did go to the link you posted....and found I could not read the pdf unless I logged-in (opened an account) for a website I have no interest in...
So, instead of spending more of my time, I was waiting for you to post more information.

But, instead...in less than 24 hours, instead of adding some further details, you posted:
Nobody??

So...
So, since I really don't know.....and suspect many here are in the same boat as I am ---- we have a wealth of knowledge in amateur radio, etc., but are not mind readers, and don't have the time to spend researching every detail of some random query to see if we actually can be of assistance, when the person asking for assistance not only doesn't give us much in the way of details, but also doesn't even sign their name or callsign for us to respond to / address our answers to.  :(

I'll simply politely suggest that you include some more detail of what exactly you're talking about, and maybe someone here will be able to help you out.

Please remember, most of us here just stop by once-in-a-while to see if we can help....most here are not on-line 24/7 waiting to post something....in addition to having lives away from our computer screens, many of us are actually on-the-air, rather than on-line....so...
So, a bit of patience here might also be something for you to consider?
  :)

73,
John,  KA4WJA

P.S.   Oh, it would also be nice to know your name and callsign....just the polite way of introducing yourself, especially when asking strangers for help.  :)

The target demographic here makes a difference.  Folks on this forum likely haven't worked with commercial gear and LTR.  In a past life I did, and I never worked on this stuff specifically either (only motorola). Reading through the message link over on repeater builder the impression I get is you need to sit down with the documentation for the hardware and figure out what the logic and levels are for the signals required.  A basic scope you can use to watch levels and states would be a handy aid.  Maybe you'll get lucky and someone that's interfaced this stuff before will come along and give you a step by step for the interfacing and settings but until then you can keep digging through the layers to try and figure it out.  One avenue I'd pursue is to contact the controller vendor and see if they have any information on interfacing this particular repeater.  Odds are high you're not the first and maybe their tech support/engineering folks can help you out.
