« on: November 04, 2022, 09:18:56 AM »

All,

Here what i think on both keys the vibroplex bug never for slow bug unlike the champion as i have it to show off i never wanted use it on the air with the bug. but i do streight key such as spark key from begali which i use the most where buy you canoot slow down the bug ment for speed deomns in my mind i this spark is better for slow code 10 wpm on spark but i do like vibroplex bug but as i said never slow bug should be fast bug like most guys do sometime time i can tell they are using bug sometimes i don't but i do love my spark key streight key that is !

Clarity, grammar and spelling aside, what do you refer to as a “spark key”?
For QRS, use a hand key paying attention to spacing and dot/dash ratio. I hear too many bad fists trying to use a paddle they haven’t mastered.

Jackie, I suspect you mean a straight key. Given the issues you are dealing with, I would strongly recommend using your straight key. If you go on 20-meter CW around 14,252 you will find operators sending at slower speeds with straight keys. Many will send asking for SKCC contacts. It will be great practice for you.

Iambic Paddles can be a trial if you cant move rapidly
Often sending incorrect characters.
I noticed this in practicing.
Straight key i can do ok but with the bug key i made i can send almost 25 to 28 wpm.
But that again requires deft and reasonably quick movement.
Anyhow stick with the straight key if it works the best.
Recovering from a stroke literally requires learning to different nerve pathways to perform a previous movement.
Its difficult, tiring, and a monumental task.
Not to mention aggravating to the patient
Or often humiliating as well.
Its one of the reasons health care providers are carefully trained in emotional sensitivity.

The is a semiautomatic "bug" key that can work at slow speeds and sound perfectly good.  It is a dual-paddle, right-angle bug made by KN4YB.  The model number is DL151RA.

I bought one, and I'm learning to use it.  I'm functional with iambic paddles and a straight key, so the bug is a bit of a learning experience.  I'm working, albeit slowly, for the Triple Key award on SKCC.

I believe he's referring to a Begali Spark ...straight key made by Begali

Begali Spark   https://www.i2rtf.com/spark.html

Hi Jackie, I had a Begali Spark and it certainly is a fine straight key. I also have a Vibroplex bug. For <20 wpm the Begali is great and for much above that the bug or a keyer is the thing to use. I think you deserve to have them all.

For me, I prefer an electronic keyer because my fist is best with that and for contesting -- which I do a lot of -- a keyer is appreciated by the op on the other end.

When I did use a bug everyday I cleaned up dit bounce with a Bug Descratcher to create a more keyer-like sound. I designed the first version in 1992 (see QST, Sept. 1992) and it has been available as a kit by one or more companies over the years.

I use both a straight key and a bug.  I have them wired in parallel and choose the key based on the other person's sending speed.  My radio doesn't know which device is closing the circuit.
