Finally made it through and got a 80 meter CW contact. Now looking for 160, those were the only two bands where needed.  I hear them, although weak, on 80 CW but not a peep on FT8. Don't care now that I have the CW contact.
160 will be tough

I don't need a contact on any of the bands I have Antennas for but OMG these guys have been blasting in.
I had them 59+ on 20M,17M and 15M.  Also pretty loud on 40M.
Well, I've started hearing them, so that's an improvement. No strong signals here. Maybe decent workable signals when they turn the beam.
To give them credit, these guys have always spent time calling for usually Back of Beam OC stations later in their DXpeditions. I'm hoping for a 40 m QSO in the next few days, but doubt it will stretch to 80 or 160 m.

I worked him on a few bands I needed so far for that entity. Just need 10 and 160. Gonna swap out one of my antennas tomorrow for the 10m rotatable dipole I have that I hang from the trees. 160... I don't have too much hope with my laughably too lame of an antenna for 160 (but I'll sure as heck try!)

I reckon you'll have a better chance than me at 160 m (1/4 wave gp, QRO and Beverages), but they did put up a Beverage for VK/ZL and will listen for us. Problem is a. distance (13,300 km), b. Africa is in the way and c. Europe is close to them. But I will be setting the alarm for early o'clock, and hope for the best.
Good luck James!

They had a long go at listening for VK ZL yesterday evening, quite a lot of callers, anyway got them on 20CW, so that is my lot complete.

Thanks Luke! I just have a 102 foot dipole fed with 600 ohm open wire line to the tuner here That's all I can squeeze into my property and too much tree coverage to get a beam up (I have passed on several free towers & beams!). Using all CW and Digital I managed to just make DXCC on 160 (now at 107 or 108 I think). With what I have for an antenna.. you get good at knowing when to listen on what band! The rest is up to the propagation gods to smile upon you. Good luck to you as well!!

160 is now the only HF band I need them on. I added a couple bands in the last day that I needed. Thanks to the team!

Now 30m RTTY split. Definitely a challenge. Hoping to get Bouvet on RTTY if at all possible.

You know what is really maddening?  I just looked and found out today, that I already had some contacts for Republic of the Congo. And all this time I was thinking this was an ATNO for me.  Well it isn't. I saw the big empty void for Democratic Republic of the Congo, and was thinking this is where TN8K was at!.  NOPE !.  They are in the Republic of the Congo, NOT the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  I was thinking all along there is only ONE Congo. Nope, there is two. I feel lower than a snakes belly in a wagon rut.

Republic of Congo = TN
Democratic Republic of Congo = 9Q

If you are aware of the history, the 9Q D R Congo used to be called Zaire (pronounced Zai - Ear).....but for some reason (possibly a regime change) changed the name back in the late 90s early 2Ks......  and if you are really aware of the history, Zaire (pronounced Zai - Ear) used to be called the Belgian Congo, when it was a colony of the Kingdom of Belgium (obviously), which it hasn't been since probably the 1960s.....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Republic_of_the_Congo

at any rate, this has been a top notch expedition with most of my Qs happening on CW....Sigs have been really really good, especially on 12 Meter SSB yesterday....having that real time log has been a super bonus too!......

I got them last night on 17M to complete QSOs on nine bands from 160 through 10 meters.

I remember 9Q6AL as an example of work first, worry later.  I worked him on 12M CW in 2012.  Most people considered him a pirate as the DXCC department would not accept QSLs. I'm sure this reduced the size of pileups.  But, in 2015 the paper work went through and he counted for both DXCC and the CQ Marathon.

I didn't learn about the previous name Zaire from Wiki, learned about it from Ham Radio Dxing. Worked some stations when it was called Zaire. The last card I have with that name is 9Q5HX in Oct 97. Not sure when the name was officially changed, the card could have already been printed, and the operation was after the change. But regardless which name is on the card, if it's 9Q it's DR of The Congo. In my opinion, DXing is the best way to learn world geography. After working new countries and sending for the cards, I liked to look them up and learn more about them.

I was out one night dining with family. The waitress had an accent that sounded African, and I asked her nationality. She said she was from Liberia. My sister told her that her English was so good. I smiled and said, "English is the official language in Liberia." My sister's husband, who is a retired high ranking Air Force officer and former cargo pilot, asked the waitress if she knew about Zaire. He said he had been there a couple of times. The waitress said she didn't know about that country. I smiled again and said, "Zaire doesn't exist anymore." He looked at me like he was thinking, "WHAT." Then I told him about the new name. So case in point, Ham Radio Dxing is the best geography teacher there is.

BTW: There's two Christmas Islands. (two that I know of) One is on the DXCC list as VK9, and the other is part of Eastern Kiribati (T32) and good for IOTA. (OC-024)
