JUMA PA1000 in use with a Icom IC-7610 ?????
« on: January 07, 2023, 05:48:41 AM »

Hi,
Is there anyone out there got experience of using the Icom 7610 (already have) with the Juma PA1000. Thinking of getting a Hustler 6-BTV (ground mounted) antenna to go with this set up. Any of your thoughts are welcome.

I'm not understanding what would be an issue? it's not much power and that antenna is fully capable of handling a real KW, the JUMA will only be intermittent duty at anywhere near a kw. Nothing should even get warm.

I have been using a Juma PA1000 for the past 5 years now. What exactly is your question?

What does it offer for the price?

5.5kg weight - great provided you accept where the compromise has been made

No 4m/70MHz

Price - compare to the Gemini DX1200 made in UK (Wales), and comes with 4m coverage (at reduced power), but a great reselling point if you get bored with it.

Also look at the US made Mercury IIIs. Super kit, value for money, now you don't even have to do basic soldering, but maybe a hassle when importing from the US to UK.

Always watch your drive from whatever solid state transceiver you use. A single short time 100w mistake can mean a broken solid state amp. Suggest to do a self assess of how often (or how rarely) you forget to do the basic checks pre-use. I never mess up, if I omit to put on my glasses before driving, it's always a design or manufacturing issue.
