Tips and tricks section
« on: January 07, 2023, 07:48:33 AM »

Do we have a tips and tricks section?
I know that  that is an easy way to share knowledge and help others.
For instance desoldering techniques, smd soldering tips, testing and troubleshooting tips, etc.

While I'm still considered new to amateur radio, I do have a lifetime of electricity and electronics skills.
Also many others mixed in.
I've learned a lot of tips that may be useful to others.
And I know many of us amateur radio enthusiasts have as well.

By now most people looking for information (but not always) use the search feature either here  or google etc.
By now there is also an abundance of (sometimes mis-) information out there and unless someone has arrived from another planet or started using the "internet" last week, reasonable readers can decide with how much salt information should be used.
But to go back to your question, if you have   a list of 10 or 100 things you wish you knew when you were starting out that you want to share, you could createa message with just that. Or even submit it as an article.
The other way to pass on the knowledge other than writing a book would be to keep en eye out for questions or discussions that you have something to contribute before the usual suspects chime in :)

Encoder Cleaning:

Remove the Encoder Knob , Chuck the shaft of the encoder it into a cordless drill and let it rip for about 10 seconds. Works EVERY time

The ARRL circulates a magazine titled "QST". For years they have a monthly section within sub titled " Hints and Kinks " or the
new subtitle " Hints and Hacks ". Their are also several publications of these monthly articles comprised into book form
several versions for several years, under a similar book title " Hints & Kinks " or similar.

The ARRL QST publishers allow individuals to submit their own personal " Tips & Tricks " to the QST monthly article. It is
on a review basis of course and their is a lengthy time period, normally, before you will see it actually published into QST, once approved.
