Cat Control - HRD - with Yaesu FT990
« on: January 09, 2023, 01:17:41 PM »

If you want to Cat control the FT990 via Ham Radio Deluxe, do you need to use the Yaesu Cat control box, which you will have to buy used on Ebay?

Thanks

If you intend to use CAT Control on the Yaesu, you will need the control box. HRD has nothing to do with it.

First, you need to make sure your FT-990 is running firmware v1.3.  I use an older interface from G4ZLP - I don’t believe he makes the same one any longer, but you can check his site for the latest version, or contact him to see if he can offer one to meet your needs.  Good luck.

W3FLH is absolutely correct.  Your FT990 must have v1.3 firmware.  If my failing old memory serves me correct, to hook the FT990 to the computer I just purchased an cable from Hosenose I believe.  Check into it.  Great rig, wish I still had it.

Info.

1.  You don’t need the discontinued Yaesu box to cat control the 990.  All you need is this.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/164349076280?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ApcGCQuMQ0e&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=bfc-zO2dSo2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Do NOT buy the cheap, Chinese knock off.  You want the one with the real FTDI chip in it.

Windoz sees the cable, and has the drivers.

Once windoz sees the port in device manager, set the speed of the port to the 990 default of 4800 8 none 1.

Set up HRD for that port, and as Jackie Gleason would say, “away we go!!”
