Help with Kenwood DSP-100?
« on: January 11, 2023, 04:53:22 PM »

Hi all, I have a Kenwood DSP-100 in Excellent shape with all cables that I sold last week to a ham I know. He received it Friday Jan 6th, hooked it up to his TS-850S and reported back to me that it worked great, BIG improvement on receive. He used it several times over the weekend but Monday morning he turned it on, it lit up as it should but it now did not make any difference, it just stopped working. He checked everything carefully but no luck. I graciously took it back, got it today (Jan 11th) hooked it up but it just does not work, no change in receive. All settings are correct so my question is does anyone know what it may be? I will check all the cabling carefully tomorrow but am hoping someone had or has a DSP-100 and knows what the problem is.

Also, if someone can fix it I would entertain that or may possibly sell it just as it is, it's really in great shape.

Thanks for any help.

Mine did the same thing.  Exact same thing.  I moved, DSP100 stopped functioning.

Took the ends off of the DIN cables, found a wire broken free.  Resoldered it, worked fine for a few months.

Then the problem came back.  Took the DIN ends apart, couldn't find an issue.  Ohming out the cable wasn't going to happen with what I had on hand at the time.  I finally just resoldered brand new DIN ends on to both of the cables and no more problems.  I've been using it just fine for a few years now.

Just speculation on my part, but I believe the pins on the ends of the cables get enough oxidation that they didn't make contact any more.

I will say this as well.  Sometimes it takes me turning the DSP on, then turn the 850 on.  Then push the RX button in on the DSP.  This doesn't always get the DSP to take over receive and I might have to push that button a couple times before the DSP takes over.

Hope that helps, as little as it is.

Shane,  do you know if the 13 pin and 6 pin din cables are straight through wiring? Thanks, Adam

If memory serves me correct, yes they are.
