TS-990S xmit option?
« on: January 17, 2023, 01:49:51 AM »

Hello all,

Is there a menu selection on the Kenwood TS-990S that will allow for transmitting outside of the band edges (for checking antenna SWR)? There was a simple menu option on my Yaesu FT-100MP which allowed this. Thanks...

On Kenwood radios you must do the MARS mod to obtain the results that you want

truthfully the absolute best way to do it is invest in an antenna analyzer. They are worth the money.

You have to open R335 by clipping it and lifting the resistor slightly to open the path.  I take no responsibility for this mod.  It's on on mods.dk with a picture of the board.  To see the file, you may have to register with the site.

Here is a video of the resistor being removed.

Some people just crush & destroy the resistor with a pair of wire cutters.

Go ahead, tear the TS-990 apart.  You will then own a $7500 CB RADIO
