what spacing rules for antenna towers?
« on: January 19, 2023, 04:06:29 PM »

A couple of years ago I acquired 2 50' towers (one alum, one steel) from a SK situation.  XYL is "encouraging" me to use them or get rid of them.  I have a hex beam she'd like relocated and a 6 meter beam I've never used so I'm thinking of erecting the 2 towers this spring and improving the antenna farm.
It would save a lot of work to just set both up at the same time given the equipment and extra bodies needed.

I have lots of space but a nearby hilltop is a preferred location for the 2 towers.  Just wondering what are the considerations for towers in close proximity.

thx to anyone offering advice.

From an antenna interaction standpoint, a 6M antenna can be darned close to a hexbeam.  Why not put the 6M on a mast 10 ft above the Hexbeam and just put up one tower?  No need for 2 towers from your description.

On the other hand, if you are planning to put up both towers, put
them far enough apart that you can string wire antennas between
them with a bit of extra space.

You want them a bit wider than exactly the length of the antenna.

Make sure if one falls over it will not damage the other.

The mast on a hex beam is part of the feed line, and isn’t intended for mechanically supporting other antennas. You could put a 6m yagi on the mast below the he beam. A 6m beam doesn’t have to be the highest antenna to pick up ground reflection gain.
