I had a fairly endless source of 4-400 bottles, they were hour meter changed, didn't matter if it was standby or flat out x hours new bottles.
I copied a layout in Bill Orr's book and made it for just 20mtrs, my only band of operation at that time, it ran really well, had about 3kv on it, and it generated the G legal limit of 400 watts (hahahaha).
I got tremendous satisfaction from building it, and using it for years.
When it came to upgrade the L4B, the xyl insisted that I buy a new amp, what you want, just get the damn thing, so got an OM2000+.
Go for it, get the bits, and don't be afraid to ask for help. Oh and mind ya fingers, its the volts that jolts but da mils that kils, and valve amps have them both.
