I use Terminal BPP with my old KAM Plus. It is a general purpose terminal program with macro keys that you can configure to drive a terminal unit. It runs fine under Windows 11. Logger 32 might also be suitable.

I have no experience with a PK232, but Terminal BPP should be able to drive it with a little work to configure the macro buttons.

See my Amtor page for more details.

Early PK232?
Crosstalk, or any dumb terminal software to activate serial port. Either DOS or Windows based.

I would use PUTTY a freebie that you can download on the internet, an excellent terminal emulator!

- Choose your serial port and baud rate and go.
- Takes about 5 minutes to learn, super simple

Tried Putty, 1200 baud, serial, hit enter, nothing happens.

Do you have a breakout box with a set of lights for the serial port? (and PUTTY should work!).

Tried Putty, 1200 baud, serial, hit enter, nothing happens.
Assuming your modem is set to 1200 baud, correctly configured bits, working, and wired correctly, then Putty will obtain a response from it. It is industry standard modem driving software and “just works”.

Terminal BPP is the same as Putty with the addition of 24 user programmable buttons, which makes using it to drive a radio modem much easier.

Putty is slow going, as you have to type when going into transmit mode.  Think I will shelve this for now.

Now you can communicate using Putty, try Terminal BPP as I mentioned a few messages ago. It has type ahead and programmed buttons for c/o, CQ, etc.

WinWarbler, a component of the freeware DXLab Suite, supports the PK-232 and other hardware modems. See

The very best program I found "back in the day" to operate the PK232 was a program called YAPP.  The letters stood for Yet Another Packet Program.  It automated everything with Macros, and worked really really well. I can't remember for sure that it ran in Windows, or Dos. I think I tried most everything at the time, but that was so long ago, but I remember I settled on YAPP
