Bands have been good as of late, ATNOs and new zone
« on: January 23, 2023, 05:18:08 AM »

Lately I have been very lucky - hope this holds for 3Y0. Two weeks ago today busted the pileup for FT8WW on CW. This morning busted a simplex pileup to work E2WRTC in Thailand on 40M. ATNO and one of three missing zones for WAZ.

Good in Clublog for FT8 and good in WRTC log for E2. 100 watts, ground mounted vertical. CW.

Both stations were super weak, barely audible when I worked them. E2 was so garbled from multi-path I couldn't hear for sure if he got my call right. I recorded it too - even in the recording you cant't tell. I went by the rhythm of the sound. He got it.

ps... you don't need a club to be a true blue DXer.

Randy,
Congrats on the new ones, and especially on your new zone for WAZ!
What are your two remaining zones?

Thanks, turns out I have Zone 23 on a paper card for JT1AA/3 so I really only need Zone 18 now. One zone to go.

18's a bear from the eastern half of the U.S. that's for sure, on both 40 and 80. I only have 4 of them worked in 22 years on 40m, and one station (twice) on 80, paper card only. Took me 19 years to work it on 80, and an additional year to get it confirmed...and that was before the current issues with Russia. Good luck!

Night gathers and now my watch begins. It shall not end until I reach Top of the Honor Roll

Great times are at hand, and soon there will be DX for all—although more for some than for others.

I've been lucky with Zones 17-19, all but 6M. My biggest obsticle has always been Zone 26, for which I still need on 80M for all 200 zones.

Congratulations Randy on the new zone!
I still need 18,  23, 26, and 28 on 80.  As well as 23 on 10 meters to work all 200 for 5BWAZ.  I have 194 confirmed on LoTW from Connecticut.

Wow! You are closing in on the real deal 5B WAZ - all zones all bands - I think I'd need another lifetime for that!

Yep, I figured 26 was going to be tough with just 100w (using legacy modes) and nothing but a ground mounted vertical but plenty of others have done it.

That's a tough one on 80M! I'd be happy on any bad just to get to mixed WAZ. Yeah, Russia, probably gotta hope for an op using LOTW - mail be be touchy - worse than the PO Box 88 days!

You may get real 5B WAZ before I get basic mixed!
