5A1AL QSL Card :(
« on: January 25, 2023, 08:57:24 AM »

Hello, this is Alessandro from Italy !  :)

I'd just want to ask if anyone has any advice about receiving the Lybia QSL.

I got back to HF ham radio activity after a few years, I had to stop for some health problems.

I am now trying to get a few confirmations, and Lybia is a country I never got confirmation from.  :(

I requested and payed by Clublog OQRS and paypal €7.00 on October 19th 2022 for a QSO made in 2013 20m CW with 5A1AL.

After more than 2 months I did not receive any QSL so I sent an email to 5A1AL QRZ.com address, but got no reply.

Meanwhile I worked him on 40m FT8 and 30m FT8.

So I decided to send another request/payment (€7.00) again using ClubLog OQRS.

I also sent another email to the operator, but so far I got no reply. :P

I would only like to receive his paper QSL, in order to be able to get credit for Lybia. LOTW confirmations would be great too, but only the paper QSL is fine, so I can get credito for a new country and I can also put it in my QSL Book , I am still missing the Lybia paper QSL there  :'(

Does anyone have any advice or could help me receive his card ?  :-[

Thanks in advance and best regards !  ;) Alessandro

I recently received a paper QSL from 5A1A for a 20+ year old QSO via OQRS.  The card was mailed from DL.  Same operator, Abubaker Alzway.  It took several months so don't give up hope.  However, he did not upload the QSO to LoTW.  5A1AL's most recent LoTW upload is 19 Jan 2023 so he is active uploading his logs.  If you didn't get a, match perhaps you should check the QSO for date/time accuracy.

Actually I have my complete log uploaded on ClubLog, and I did get the correct (automatic) matches when requesting the QSL with ClubLog OQRS.

Anyway thank you for your reply and the info !

If anyone has suggestions to unlock the situation I'd really appreciate !  :)

Thanks in advance. Alessandro

Hi Alessandro,
Randy, W5UE I think was a QSL manager at the time for 5A1AL. You could try sending him an email to see if he still has access to the logs to do a LoTW upload. He did not have my call in clublog but he said there were some paper logs he did not have access to so I was unable to get a LoTW confirm.

I worked him in 2013 and at the time he had me send a QSL + Return postage (dollar bills) to his Germany Address (DL1AL) but I think his license lapsed and someone else now has that callsign. I did get a QSL card from him.

I did exchange one or two emails with 5A1AL about LoTW but never did get clublog updated.

I submitted a QSL card request via Clublog in early September 2022.  2-3 months later, I did receive a 5A1AL QSL card confirming the QSO, from Germany.  It could be that he only is able to mail out cards a couple times a year, and I just got lucky with the timing of my request - but I did receive the confirmation.
