CW activity on 2M or beyond... is there any ?
« on: January 27, 2023, 09:49:02 AM »

Can this community comment on whether there's any 2M or beyond CW activity in your neck of the wood ? Curious about the rest of north america with a vested interest in SoCal... here even the repeater activity seems to have gotten slower since the panda monium, and fewer new rigs for that realm other than FM anyway. Is CW alive up there ?

There is CW activity on the satellites which use either 2m or 70cm as an uplink.  There is usually a little CW activity in contests as well, especially in the larger areas.

Microwave stations in VHF and up contests often use CW as it often works better than voice over difficult paths.
A SSB/CW IF rig is typically used with a transverter.  CW works great for dish alignment.

There is CW on VHF and UHF, but you have to get off the local repeaters to find most of it.

I've done 2m CW for VHF contests and a little bit of EME when I had a setup back in 2012. You might find some EME'ers do CW off the moon - although many/most are using digital. The all-mode satellites you may find some CW, as mentioned.

In contests, if you use much lower power than the calling station, you may try answering using CW. You increase the probability to get a long distsnce QRP QSO done.

I was gonna use one of my pandemic checks to buy an FT-818 to do CW on VHF/UHF.

I did some research locally and on the forms, and found very little activity or interest.

So I bought a new bicycle instead.
