Fair price on Ten Tec titan 425.
« on: January 29, 2023, 01:55:44 PM »

Curious what is a fair price for a Ten Tec 425 Titan.  Still a good amp for modern radios?

Thanks

Yeah it’s a great amp.  It needs a grid trip circuit not just the warning light.  It’s got a great QSK system.  The  fives are expensive to replace but if someone has some spare tubes that’s not an issue.  Easily makes 1500 watts all day long. If it’s in good shape $1600-1800.

W1QJ,  " The Fives are Expensive to Replace".  What FIVE'S are you referring too  ?????

The Tubes  ??  Because the 425 Titan runs a pair of 3CX800A7 tubes.  Not cheap but good used tubes can be found.

So I for one, would like to know what you mean by the "fives"

Tubes.  Pretty simple to deduce from the rest of the text.

My autocorrect, for some stupidly odd reason, has a tendency to change 'tubes' to 'fives'.  I've NO idea why.

Just make sure parts are available and the price of the finals. That would dictate to me what I would pay for it. I bought a TT centurion, great amp, just had bias problems I could not fix. Would keep blowing the transistor and the tubes would glow red. Then there was the problem of getting to the transistor.
