WD8DNW/N8FRQ signed off today
« on: January 31, 2023, 01:33:55 PM »

My Father passed away today. His former call letters were WDKDNW and N8FNQ and he connected me to the world when I was a kid. That desk and radio with the big antenna outside was a gateway to another world. The Q cards from far off places, the world map and world clock on the walls. His office was as good as any railway station or airport for me, it opened up my  world! May his memories fly through the airwaves tonight

Condolences.

I've lost a lot of ham friends over the years. Never gets easier.

Condolences on your loss. Wish there was a way to make the loss easier, if there were I'd surely have used it myself when my dad passed....

Prayers,

My sincerest condolences. My father, K5LDH, passed away in 2006. I still miss him terribly. I became a ham before him but it was the ham section his Popular Electronics magazines that propelled me.

I sagged a for about six months after he passed. I bounced back with the help of other amateurs. May your dad's memory be a blessing.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. The Ham community was always embracing and open when I was a kid. I loved going out on the scavenger hunts with him and his friends, camping in some field somewhere searching the airwaves for a sign. Really a magical thing to have a Ham Dad! The airwaves changed everything about me, it made the world accessible to me at a young age. I’ll always be proud of my Dad for showing me the world is right there for the taking!
