Wasn't it Edison who responded to a similar "waste of time" comment about his 96 failed attempts to create an electric light bulb..."not a waste of time.  I learned there are 96 things that doesn't work!"  (Paraphrased)

Edison did not "create" anything.  Not even the light bulb.  What he did do was steal most of the inventions better engineers created in his lab.  Read about Tesla getting screwed out of money after he designed a few things for Edison.   Read about how Edison wanted to use DC for lighting.  Read about how Edison electrocuted an elephant to "prove" that AC was "dangerous."

Many of the "earlier" handbooks go into great detail, most of the later handbooks do not.  If you have access to an early one there is a lot of info available that can be done to quiet a noisey generator.
Or you could ask the generator maker for any info.

The two 240-31 cores used in series - each with about 12 turns of the power cord - took out most all noise I could detect.

I compared noise levels in different bands running off my wall power vs the generator. For all intents and purposes no difference. So I was happy. (Compared to the 20 over s9 noise I would get without the toroids).

I did end up adding a commercial (25 dollar) EMI filter just after the toroids.  I put that filter into a Cantex pvc box (4x4x2). Just ran the cord on one side made the hookups on each side and out the other side.

So now it’s about 12” of cord from the generator, the two toroids in series, then about 3” into the EMI filter. Then for strain relief I just wrapped the remaining 6’ of cord into a 4” diameter circle and tie wrapped it leaving a 6” pigtail to plug into.

Overall I’m happy that if needed I can use my “cheaply” acquired 800 watt generator to power my rig for portable / remote operations with my noise problem solved.
