Control Operator - 2023
« on: February 05, 2023, 10:22:42 AM »

Hi,

A General operating in the Advanced/Extra phone band and in the presence of an Extra-class control operator can use either his callsign or the callsign of the control operator or should he only use the callsign of the Extra-class control operator?

If the station is owned by the General can he still operator in the Advanced/Extra phone bands in the presense of a Advanced/Extra control operator?

Tnx,

Mike

97.119 (e)
When the operator license class held by the control operator exceeds that of the station licensee, an indicator consisting of the call sign assigned to the control operator's station must be included after the call sign.

Never heard this by a USA station.  I have a QSL from Spain that has two calls in this fashion.

So they would identify as W*GEN/K*EXT?

I've actually done this.

When operating in the Extra subband from N3ANU (general), I could
either sign with just my callsign (basically, he loaned me his station),
or using N3ANU/WB6BYU (I am control operator at his station).

Not something I do every day, and generally I would just use my
callsign if I was testing their equipment.  But there may be cases
where the station callsign is important, such as contact credit for
an award perhaps, or where the other stations in a group would
recognize the station callsign.

They way that’s worded is funny. Seems the higher class control operator is always required to sign. But if the higher class control operator is operating within the privileges of the lower class station, is there a need?

Why would the “senior” need to be control op if the “junior” station is operating within their privileges?
