Zero 5 ground plane balun question
« on: February 10, 2023, 06:18:20 AM »

On the site, there is a 40 and 80 meter version. The balun does not state what kind it is. I know a Ground mounted vertical uses a 4 to 1 un un what about the ground plane?

How do you feel the performance would be compared to a traditional ground mounted vertical??

I have looked into purchasing the 27' version and there are some good Youtube videos reviewing the antenna. I have limited area for radials so this type of antenna would work in my situation. In my opinion there are some advantages to this setup versus a traditional loaded vertical. It has full band coverage from 40-10m, no lossy traps, and no need for radials.

Looking at the ZeroFive vertical photos it looks to me as if the counterpoise is electrically connected to the (earth) grounded mast. Is this correct? If so, ground losses, found with EZNEC, are high on the 80-20 meter bands and ground radials would be beneficial.
