WSJT-X File Pop Up at Windows 11 Startup
« on: February 13, 2023, 11:29:28 AM »

I recently loaded WSJT-X onto a new Windows 11 PC. The program file opens for some reason at Startup. After no luck trying to make it go away, I uninstalled the program and deleted all related files I could find on the C drive, but it still pops up. Path is: Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Startup/wsjt-x 2.6.0. But I can't find it via File Explorer. I also eliminated it under the Program Data Menu, and it's still there on startup, although the file is now empty. Any idea how to make it disappear and to prevent it from reappearing when I reload the software? I never had this problem on my laptop running Windows 8.1.

Although I have no firsthand experience concerning your problem, I did find this page that addresses it. Hopefully, there is some new info there that helps you.

You can find it in this directory (paste it into the address bar in File Explorer):

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If you don't find it there, check here:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Thanks for the responses. I found a solution before reading your posts. First, I had to uncover hidden files to reveal Program Data, which was the actual first step in the path. Then I followed the path to the Startup folder and deleted the wsjtx file located there. That fixed the problem. On reinstallation I chose NOT to create a shortcut at startup, then went into the wsjt-x folder on the C drive, opened the bin subfolder, found the wsjt-x subfolder (with the icon next to it), and sent it to the desktop so I'd have an icon for the program. After reconfiguring the software, everything works as it should.
