For many years, the Society of Midwest Contesters sponsored the Norther American QSO Party Challenge where the Northern California Contest Club, Potomac Valley Radio Club and SMC competed to see which club had the highest points total across the CW, SSB and RTTY events that occur twice per year.
It was a lot of work to add everything up and in 2021 SMC ended their custodianship. Since PVRC often won, PVRC resumed it for 2023 (info
here) with a twist: to make it easier to collect scores, only scores from stations that are using the
Contest Online Scoreboard will count towards this challenge.
This proved to be somewhat controversial within PVRC - many, myself included, had looked at the Online Scoreboard and decided not to connect. But, many of us found it easy to connect to the N1MM software and used it in the first round of NAQPs.
I had not turned it off in N1MM, so my score was live during my 9 hours of WPX RTTY operation but I didn't think to look until towards the end. Really was kind of interesting - if I had checked earlier, I might have increased my butt in chair time to get ahead of another PVRCer who lives near me but probably not - I'm not a big RTTY guy!
Easy to use, easy to turn off if you don't want to use.
