Ohio Mutual Insurance
« on: February 24, 2023, 06:31:23 PM »

If you have Ohio Mutual insurance, please buy a set of knee pads because you are going to need them. The insurance adjuster says that he needs a professional to determine if my antennas are broken or damaged. He denied the claim for replacement. If this is your insurance company, RUN!!!!

DO NOT KNOW IF YOUR STATE HAS DEPT OF INSURANCE LIKE ILLINOIS BUT IF YOU DO, GIVE THEM A CHANCE AT THE PROBLEM.  INS COMPANIES IN ILLINOIS DO NOT LIKE TO BE CONTACTED BY THIS STATE AGENCY. HOPE THIS HELPS AND GOOD LUCK.

Most insurance claims people have no clue what ham radio is and will often rely on third party consultants to adjudicate claims. Give them a chance to make it right.

I had an underwriter willing to reimburse me to replace a broken rotor but had no idea what a reasonable fee is for the labor involved in doing so.

If you are an ARRL member, check out their insurance program.  Although it won't help in this situation, for future protection, it's a great program.  I have it as does the club I belong to.  We've made at least four claims over the past few years for repeater damage due to lightning and storm damage.

I don't see the adjuster's request as unreasonable.

He is willing to hand it off to someone else who is familiar with the damages. Certainly better than putting the rubber stamp DENIED on it  (which I don't follow because he was willing to bring in a third party).

What did the "professional" say?

I want to share that the insurance company finally agreed to pay for the damages to the antennas. It took me demanding 3 times. But He did finally pay for them.
