From about 11:55 UTC until about 12:20 had copy on VK6LW (near Perth) in Western Australia which is over 11K miles / 18K KM from my QTH in Florida, USA.

He faded in and out but there was a peak of about five minutes when he did not fade out and was quite readable. I tried but no luck - best I got was a "QRZ QRZ". He did make a QSO with another station less than 100 miles from my QTH though.

My understanding is the VK's have a max power of 120 watts CW? I rarely hear WA in VK land on any band, let alone 160 meters!

Advanced licence holders in Australia can run 400 watts.  Standard licence holders can run 100 watts.  Foundation licence holders are limited to 10 watts.

Congrats—great catch!!! Zone 29 from Zone 5 is quite a feat on Topband. I've only done it once successfully in 22 years of operating 160m.

Night gathers and now my watch begins. It shall not end until I reach Top of the Honor Roll

Great times are at hand, and soon there will be DX for all—although more for some than for others.

Oh, I did not work him. Just heard him calling CQ and making QSO's with others - best I got was a QRZ?

In VK we are authorised to run 400 w PEP in SSB, etc. In CW and Data modes, we are allowed 120 w *average*. The regulatory authority seems to panic about us using slightly higher power, but they really wouldn't know why. Place is full of bureaucrats.
As consequence, if you ask me how much power I'm running, I'll describe my antenna.
You would be referring to Kev VK6LW. He's on regularly. The path to USA from Australia is often enhanced around the Equinoxes. Conditions have been very poor this Summer for us on Top Band.

I also heard the VK6 here in Northern IL but was unsuccessful in making contact with 200W and 100' top loaded tower.  RX was made on a HI-Z 4-8Pro RX Array.  I spotted him but heard no other callers.  He left or I lost RX before I could get the AL1500 amp warmed up to call.
