Icom 7610 display issues ?? Solved ??
« on: February 14, 2023, 12:23:40 PM »

Just wondering?  Has Icom solved the issues with the display or are they still having hit and miss problems  ??

What is there policy on out of warranty displays that good bad ?

I was thinking about getting  7610, but am reluctant because of the stories of displays that have had issues.

Trying to get some straight answers.

They have had this handled for quiet a while. As far as I know no new complaints have been appeared. The repair went fantastic on mine. Plus I used the rebate on shipping to purchase an RM-28

Yes so I heard, but now I have heard that they feel the new displays have no issues, so they stopped the free repairs.  Is there a year when they started using the new displays.  Lots of stories on the internet.  Right now I have a kenwood 890S, which is a great rig, and a Flex 6600 and Maestro.  But the 7610, as well as the 7300 and 705 can run the SDR for Mac on the Icom's now.  Great program and have used my Flex with on my Mac using the Mac OS version.  Marcus has a very complete program and being able to use it with some Icom's now is tempting.  I think the 890S may be a better rig by a nats hair, and that's about all.

I purchased mine new from HRO on 7/10/2021. Nary a problem with the screen. If you have doubts, then buy new. FWIW, S/N  2200xxxx

Call Icom and ask them about their repair policy on the screen. That way you’ll get a straight answer.
This subject has been the subject of discussion for years.
I’m sure you’ll find that they are still repairing defective screens at no cost.

Well Gary, that was so obvious I didn't even think of it.  I'll give it a try but all companies have been bad on answering the phones.  Years back Icom was probably the best.

There’s a repair facility in Michigan? Someone on this forum must have the contact info l. I’ve seen reports that they are terrific.

The problem seems to have been with a batch of screens that ICOM bought a couple of years ago. The early production runs seemto have been very reliable, then problems started to appear in radios that were just a few months old. As I understand it, ICOM reported them back to the screen manufacturer and the design/production fault was addressed, so the current production runs seem to be immune to it. ICOM were worried about the potential damage it would do to their reputation with a high proportion of their flagship radios failing and have been receptive to fixing the problem even on radios that have come out of warranty. I guess that if you bought a lightly used unit built around two years ago, it could still fail on you, but my understanding is that ICOM would still fix it for you...

For the first two years Icom has had display issues with the 7610, not every unit failed but it seems it only a matter of time but since two years ago they have retrofitted the original 7610 displays with a new manufacturers display cause the old company went belly up. You may ask how I know this and basically I owned the 7610 for three years, three displays al totaled and the last one that went into the radio was from a different company, ran it for almost 7 months and sold it. Icom never charged for the display then and did pay to ship it back but IMO after the first time it goes into service for the same exact thing Icom should have picked up the shipping back to them, three times is no charm and totaled $300 in shipping back to them.
No Icom's for this guy for a very long time to come.
