Best of luck -- after clearing with the home for a "go ahead" I would get with a local radio club to work with you for the best options versus limitations.

Best of luck to you. Thoughts and prayers go with you for the next chapter in your life. I spent some time in one after a bad injury and learned a few things that you should check out. The advice to get help from some locals is good. Medical facilities have more elaborate electrical systems. GFI. Monitoring systems for patients. People with monitors or devices that cannot take much RF. Verify that the facility will allow what you want to do. Although it's not REAL ham radio and for sure not HF ham radio -- but you may have some fun with echolink or a hot spot and D-Star. They will give you some contact with hams and be much more likely to not be a problem in the facility.

Martin has a nice web page you may want to visit.

He has a nice station in a continuing care retirement community.
